SOME PROJECTS PRINCIPALS OF DARKON COMPLETED WITH OTHER CONSULTING FIRMS INCLUDE;

I. Lihir Agreement Review (LAR)
Darkon was engaged by Tanorama & Newcrest Mining Limited as community engagement specialist as part of pre-MOA Review in preparation of the actual MOA Review.

II. Social Mapping for Ramu 2 Hydro Electric Project-April-May 2016
Darkon was engaged to carry out Social Mapping for Ramu 2 Hydro Electric Project. Project developed by Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH) and contracted through Golder PNG and Tanorama Ltd.

III. Household Survey for Lae Urban Planning-May-December 2015
Lae Urban Planning Project funded by JICA and major contractor was Yechiyo Engineering Co., from Japan. Darkon was contracted to carry out Household Survey to collect baseline data for the planning in May 2015. The focus area includes;

  • Nabak LLG
  • Wampar LLG
  • Results of the survey was prepared and given to Yechiyo Engineering Co., to plan for Lae Urban Development.

IV. Traffic Survey for Lae Urban Planning-May-December 2015
Lae Urban Planning Project funded by JICA and major contractor was Yechiyo Engineering Co., from Japan. Darkon Consulting Limited was engaged to carry out Traffic Survey to collect baseline data for the planning in May 2015. The traffic sites include;

V. Preliminary Landowner Identification Study-September 2015
Mananda Gas to Electricity Project initiated by Oil Search Limited to produce electricity and supply to domestic markets in Hela and Southern Highlands Province. Darkon Consulting Limited was engaged to identify landownership and clans in the proposed project site.

VI. Lands & Community Affairs Advisor-Erave to Samberigi Road Project-December 2014
Darkon was engaged as Lands and Community Affairs Specialist to oversee lands issues, community affairs issues, and safety, security and environment aspects of the proposed SHP- Gulf Highway under Francis Kaupa & Associates Ltd. This is a National Government Project to connect Highlands to Southern Region and is funded by OSL through Tax Credit Program.

VII. Socio-Economic & Stakeholder Engagement Consultant for Major Bridge Study in PNG (10 February-30 July 2014).
Darkon was engaged as the Socio-Economic & Stakeholder Engagement Consultant for Chodai Co, Ltd in PNG under Asian Development (ADB) funded Project to undertake Major Bridge Study in 5 main Highways of PNG. The job include; traffic assessment, population survey, local business activity, interview project stakeholders, land access processes, resettlement issues and assessing potential damages to houses, gardens and environment.

VIII. Socio-Economic Impact Assessment & Land Access for Aitape Water Supply Project, West Sepik Province, PNG (30 January-02 February 2014).
The project is an initiative of the Water PNG development plan to provide safe and effective water supply to rural people. Darkon was engaged to carry out preliminary socio-economic impact assessment and land access for Geotech engineers to formulate concept design for the project and to obtain Environmental Permit.

IX. Carry out Social Impact Assessment and Land Access for proposed Enga International Hospital and Hela Opene Technical College in Enga Province (16-22 December 2013).
Darkon sub-contracted under Eco Care Engineering to social impact assessment, land access, resource use and cultural impact assessment for Environmental Permitting.

X. Buang Hydro Power Project in Bulolo District, MorobeProvonce, 28-30 June 2013
Darkon was engaged to carry out socio-economic Impact Assessment for environment permit application including land ownership, land access, cultural heritage, infrastructure and risk assessment.

XI. Katana Iron, SML Application, Social & Environmental Impact Assessment (SEIA) in Morobe Patrol Post, Morobe Province, 16-22 June 2013
Darkon was engaged to carry out household survey and socio economic impact assessment as part of the requirement for SML application. Scope of work includes landownership and tenure, cultural heritage and household survey.

XII. Socio-Economic Impact Assessment for Tingu Drilling Program in Kiunga District Western Province-15-20 February 2013
Darkon was engaged as Social Scientist under Eco Care Engineering Ltd to carry out Social Impact Assessment for Tingu Drilling operated by Horizon Oil in preparation of the overall EIA for permitting. The specific scope of work were to identify landownership, kinship, leadership structure, migration pattern, land use, availability of government services, cultural and archaeological significant sites.

XIII. Horizon Oil-Stanley Drilling Program, Kiunga District, Western Province-28th November-2nd December 2012:
Darkon was engaged to carry out Social Impact Assessment under Eco Care Engineering Ltd as part of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for proposed wells at Stanley 3&5 operated by Horizon Oil in Kiunga Western Province. The work was undertaken to develop environment and social management plan to manage potential risks and impacts on environment and community. The report forms the submission to Department of Environment & Conservation for permit application.

XIV. ChildFund Stakeholder Consultation, Rigo & Kwikila District- Central Province, 2th-17th November 2012
Social Impact Assessment around Rigo Area in Central Province for ChildFund PNG on the proposed seismic activity undertaken by Larus Energy. The objective was to raise awareness among the community on the possible impacts of seismic survey and to develop a concept note and project proposal with recommendations for potential partner organizations that can provide the necessary trainings, capacity building or tools that could support the mobilization of collective action by the community, including:-

  • rights with regards to land tenure, environmental protection
  • Possible areas for negotiation with Larus Energy
  • Development of a community led action plan
  • List of possible donors that can support such an intervention.

XV. Boera Satellite Township SEIA for Permit Application- Rigo District in central Prvince, 8th-13th August 2011
Darkon was engaged to carry out preliminary Social Impact Assessment for Boera Satellite Township under Kramer Ausenco funded by Boera Holdings in Central Province as part of Social & Environmental Impact Assessment (SEIA) for permit application.
